........ the backdoor. The east wind is blowing, a bit, and it is still on the cold side. I know I am a wimp, so I am not going on the beach this morning.
Thank you, Sian, that is a lovely thing to say..... We are about 50 yards (in old money) from the beach. The sea can, of course, get closer ...................
My back door is probably just over 100 yards from the high water mark - though I do have some protection from the outbuildings. My garden border is only about 50 yards though and my precious escollonia is looking a little black and wan. I'm hoping it recovers! Rosa Rugosa, Hebe and Fuschia doing OK though.
Our escallonia blackened and died during its second winter. I think it was protected through the first one because it was so tiny and close to the ground. We do well with Rosa rugosa, our favoured version is Roserie de l`Haye. Hebes are fine but the seaward aspect becomes naked after a couple of seasons. Hebe salicifolia is the best "doer". Prostrate rosemary works with a modicum of shelter, a south-facing wall, and ballota seems to cope with anything as long as it is not too rainy! Such fun.! We are rebuilding the garden post-builders .... and we`ll post the progress. Love walrus

I think your back door is even closer to the shore than mine! I love seeing your daily "views"!
