Sunday 31 August 2008

A long evening, trying to sort out e-mail problems, so I wanted to do something on the computer that would work.
This is a corner of the lovely Vicarage Garden at East Ruston.

A quiet Sunday morning

I don`t think so.  The boys who dive on the wrecks are gathering.  Three cars,  large,  and one somewhat used inflatable with an outboard motor the size of a tank have arrived.
Before they depart there will be much checking of gear, boats,  air cylinders etc .  Then the heaving and grunting as they don their wet suits, before heading out to sea.
I always think of the North Sea as murky and full of sand, but once you are out there I am told it is clear if a little chilly. No photos today as not everybody looks good in a wet suit.

Fresh fish for tea

If you know a man who knows a man with a boat, aren`t you the lucky one. They are happy to go three miles out into the North Sea to find one of the many wrecks and go fishing.
They would have gone further but the sea was a bit choppy, rough to you and me.
The result for me, as you can see, is three mackerel and a couple of codling.
Baked cod tonight and mackerel fishcakes for later.

Not the white cliffs..............

The weather forecast said overcast and cloudy.
I do not think so  -   must be the coastal effect.
This is a view looking towards Overstrand about 4 miles down the beach.  It  would be a nice walk this morning but,  sadly,  no time today as the shop is open and we must now go to work.

pallet gardening

Well, we`ve made a start

on the    courtyard garden project and this is the first progress report;  2 weeks in the life of three tubs  - they are planted with oriental green stuff which we plan to eat before the end of  October.
The tubs are pallet wood, painted with deck paint and lined with ancient plastic tablecloths.
Another photo due on Saturday.  But we still haven`t tidied up the yard.

Afternoon off...

Just to show I do get out of Mundesley from time to time, but not often;   I like it here. Went off to the gardens at East Ruston for a wander round,  it`s  looking very high summer-y. Had to have the coffee and cake - excellent.
Met a Norfolk friend,  " have you got a light, boy?"                            Note that Sally - very bravely - picked up the camera and did the point and click.

Are you sitting comfortably?.....

After much huffing & puffing.......
and you would be amazed how a single length of rope can tie itself in knots.......
RESULT.
Only 5 more to go.
Comfort rating;  better than expected!
Jenny says; not bad at all   --- she is being her usual modest self.
Sally says; it needs to be tested through a long evening and a bottle of wine......... the sooner the better.

The time has come the Walrus said............

The making of the wave took a lot of time this summer; as a result the yard has become a tip. A lot of fun was had but now the housework must be done.
The big idea is to turn the concrete yard into a container garden. We had some big tubs,  made out of pallets,  which after seven or eight years had rotted so we must start again.
First find the pallets. Not so difficult as we are having some building work done on the beachhut and most things come on pallets.
Let the work begin, as the carpenter might say. More of this anon.

Another quiet morning

Busy day in the shop and then a trip to Alby to collect Running Dog from the garden sculpture show.
Looking forward to a quiet morning.

Bank holiday Monday

The sun is shining, which can not be right,  as it is a bank holiday and it normally rains. As usual I am down on the beach early, as I like it to myself. Later it will be full.
Mundesley beach huts may not be the most fashionable  but add a bit of colour .

A camera is a lovesome thing

These point and shoot cameras are amazing. Once it was the box brownie, rolls of film, waiting for it to be developed before you knew what you had got. Now it is all point and click and you can see what you have done. I like it.
Posting pictures is getting easier, but getting the right file size is beyond me this morning. Will find out more so I can do it better.
It is a grey morning so no stroll on the beach today. I will be back in the workshop getting on with the second chair.

Saturday 23 August 2008

If it quacks like a chair...............

Have stuck all the pieces together and lo!
 it looks like a chair.
Now,  I know it does not look very comfortable yet but when it has been strung with rope who knows?

Busy beach?

For all those in the crowded world, there are still places where you can just sit and think of nothing in particular.   I do it most days;
 try it sometime.

Yesterday

The running dog in the Alby Gardens is part of this weekend`s  sculpture trail.

I fear he has seen supper and is after one of the chickens.
These are just two of the sculptures that are on show in the extensive garden which is looking very good and well worth a visit.
The gardens are between Aylsham and Cromer on the A140.

Tuesday 19 August 2008

Knifepainter caught mid-tutorial;   Jenny is re-learning how to hold a camera after a photo famine of  blaaarrghg years. She hopes to improve with age and maturity.

Chair update

As you can see I have finished making the flatpack. Much better to make your own as it comes without instructions, which make no sense, and you can not lose the allen key. If time allows,  tomorrow I will put it together and see if it looks like a chair.

Mundesley beach August 08

It was raining this morning so I did not walk on the beach because I am an old softy. This is a photo I took last week just to show that the sun does shine.
I went to the workshop instead to do some more to the set of dining chairs that I have been meaning to make for the last seven years. I will keep you posted on my progress. More from the beach when it is not raining.

Reconnecting

14 august:

Restarting blog after rather long gap.
We have to learn how to post stuff so this is just a practice run.
     This summer we  have
     been mostly making waves.
