The boys are back

September is when it starts to happen.

I could get better close-ups as the tide was well in and I could lean on the rail to steady the camera.

More splosh

Another happy accident.

Sunday 27 September 2009

sunset

Yet another glamorous evening in Mundesley. It has been a fabulous autumn.

Thursday 24 September 2009

Gone fishing

One of the tractors that launch our small fishing boats off the beach.

Later I saw these two boats coming home.It is not often that they both go out to fish at the same time.
The sea was calm so getting off the beach was easy.

Low water and autumn colour.......

We are enjoying warm sunny days.
It will be such a shock when the rains come.

I found limpets on the groyne; we do not have many shells on this beach, mostly sand and pebbles.

The red plant is sea purslane.

High water at Mundesley

Not a lot of beach this morning so I tried to catch the waves as they hit the sea wall.
The sea was quite calm so the resulting 'splosh' was not that big but that is a lot of water becoming airborne.

Friday 18 September 2009

Beach art at Mundesley...

..... on the sea wall.
Well, I think they are rather good and I am glad I found them before the sea washes them away.
What do you think?

Thursday 17 September 2009

An afternoon out....

.... at the East Ruston Old Vicarage garden.
This garden is about seven miles away from us and we go and wander around quite often. The garden has a great range of plants and settings and is well worth visiting.

The birds are on the move; the summer visitors have gone and the winter visitor are moving in. Here are two dunlins heading south to join up with many more. They will form large flocks which overwinter on the Essex estuaries.

Monday 14 September 2009

It was a jacket morning......

........ as the north wind was blowing; not really cold but no longer summer.

A cormorant was sitting where the herring gull usually sits, which makes a change. There are a lot of cormorants about at the moment.

Young black-headed gulls were running around looking for food and giving me an action shot.

Thursday 10 September 2009

I do love the moon at this time of year.

I am still working out how the camera operates and how to do night shots.

These were taken from the back door looking out over the sea.

I will try to do better but these give an idea of the view.

Monday 7 September 2009

We had real surf this weekend.....

... and the boys were out in force to enjoy it.
Staying on the waves was not easy but they kept on trying.

When you get it right in the North Sea you have a wonderful ride and you need a lot of skill.

Friday 4 September 2009

We do not have rock pools......

... but we do have sand pools.
They do not seem to have any wildlife in them, so no shrimps or small fish that I have ever seen.

Barnacles and mussels on the top of one of the uprights of the groynes, a pretty pattern.

Tuesday 1 September 2009

A bit close to the groynes.

The surfers were not as close as they look but even so ........ not ideal.
The best waves are not always where you would like them to be.

We are promised big waves at the end of the week so we will see what happens.
