The East wind is blowing......

  and will we have snow.
Yet another cold snap this winter, roll on the spring.

Garden inspector........

....  the ginger cat from next- door- but- one has come to look at the new garden. I am not sure he likes it very much, too much change and mud.

The boys are making great progress;    faith is needed but it will be great.

Thursday 29 January 2009

Mundesley mud ......

We promised you news of the garden .... spot the difference. More to come we hope ..... we wouldn`t want to be left in this state ...

Six chairs against the odds...

They are done, all six of them, with enough rope left over for a prawn pot.

Time for the celebratory glass of wine!

Tuesday 27 January 2009

Final chair ....

..... and Ru is slaving over it.

Sally is playing with the camera ...... a rare treat and somewhat nervous-making.

Hopefully, a shot of the full set will be posted TOMORROW!

Oyster catchers .........

....... in the sun. A group of five but I only caught three as they probed the sand for food. They seemed to be finding something to eat so I could get quite close as they were busy.

Pebble dash....

A look at the groynes on a dull morning. The pebbles are forced into the groynes by the sea, making patterns and adding even more texture. The yellow and grey lichens are beginning to grow again, to give added colour.

Friday 23 January 2009

All in a day's work........

....... for the amazing Tony-and-Clive combo.
 And it rained all morning.
We had chips and curry sauce for lunch, in the shop, while we waited for the weather to improve. The chipshop curry sauce is not a Walrus thing but the boys enjoyed it and it gave them the strength to start on the rebuilding of the terrace this afternoon.
 RESULT!!

Thursday 22 January 2009

It is getting lighter.....

....... and the boys can get to the beach after school.
I saw them scampering down the road with their boards so I gave chase.
The sky was getting prettier by the minute .

Wednesday 21 January 2009

They call it garden design:

It is  the remodelling of the land round the house. This is just the start. The earth will move for all of us.
 More photos as it develops.

When is a plant not a weed........

..... when it is  Allium triquetrum, or three-cornered garlic.
" Introduced to gardens from the Mediterranean, an occasional escape on grassy cliffs and in the village of Mundesley." *
This allium is very rare in Norfolk and we appear to have most of it on the bank by our stream.
*  "A Flora of Norfolk" by Beckett & Bull
As for the fungus, I haven`t a clue .......... suggestions please.

Chair number five.....

The rope supply appears to be adequate.
One more chair to go, as we are being conventional and having six of them.

Sunday 18 January 2009

Gulls in the morning sun;

................. a view from the back door.
I think someone feeds the birds as the gulls often come in and fly around this site. The blue sky was a welcome change, too much grey is bad for me.

Saturday 17 January 2009

What a grey day.............

....... with rain in the wind, so not a day for a long walk on the beach. On days like this I am glad I do not have a dog, but then I'm a wimp as you all know.

Wednesday 14 January 2009

A misty afternoon..........

At a glance the beach appeared to be deserted but as I peered into the gloom ......
Trying to catch a fish or a wave may have been optimistic but full marks for having a go.

Tuesday 13 January 2009

Looking at the cliffs.........

As you can see they are just mud and sand. It may look like rock strata but it is  soft and clay-like.
Here is the river Mun flowing through the culvert and some light at the end of the tunnel.
It is much warmer today but there`s  no sun to brighten the January colours.

Monday 12 January 2009

Too cold .... Too wet .......

More signs of life in the garden, plants are so good at just hanging in there.
The weather may be better tomorrow so I may get out there and do something, or at least get on the beach.

Friday 9 January 2009

Garden wreck

It is all a nasty mess but Tony turned up today and we had a proper conversation about what is to be done.
And this is the right time to be dealing with it ...... if the rain will hold off for a couple of months ...............

Hope and despair..........

The garden is in need of some TLC.
Rob came in and cleared the top growth  so now we can see where we are. We have to rebuild the flower borders and reorganise the structure and the planting.
We `ll keep you posted .....

Thursday 8 January 2009

Bird dog...........

A fine morning for gulls, and dare I say it, a little warmer. The English setter is engaged in conversation with a gull. There is a hint of sunshine .... such luxury.

Tuesday 6 January 2009

I did go .......

...... down to the beach this morning as the wind had dropped and the sun was out. Some of the fluff or spume was looking like meringue in the sunlight.
The beach was littered with cuttlefish bones; anyone out there with a budgie?

Monday 5 January 2009

If you think...........

..... I am going on the beach in this weather.........
I did get down the other day but with the easterly wind I was not stopping, nor, with it moving into the north , will I be going again in a hurry.

Saturday 3 January 2009

Would you............

......... believe it ? The temperature is 3C at best and they still go out and play.
I don't know who is madder, them or me.
 What do you think ?

Friday 2 January 2009

View from..........

........ the backdoor. The east wind is blowing, a bit, and it is still on the cold side. I know I am a wimp, so I am not going on the beach this morning.
